Simply put, I am a concept artist. I prefer doing character and creature creation but any kind of concept creation is up my alley. When I finish school at the Art Institute of Tampa and obtain my bachelor’s in Game Art and Design, I plan on returning to another school at some point to improve my fine arts skill. This will be done in addition to getting out in the field and starting my career. I hope to one day be responsible for the creation of a world and its peoples.
Generally, when I sit down to do a piece I begin thinking about the subject. This may seem trivial or what everyone else does, but I try to think further than what is the image is about. For instance, if I’m going to create a character I don’t just draw them and say “there is so-and-so and he can do this”. I think about why he or she can. I ask myself a series of questions such as: Where did they come from? What were their parents like? Do they hate the opera? What is their home like? How did they grow up? These are just a few examples. With this I create the past, present, and future of the specified character. The same goes for creatures or races. The only difference is I go back further to try to design their anatomy, social hierarchy, language, and belief systems. All of which is based on the world that came before them. I generally use a combination of pencil and digital media to bring my works to light. I am also an avid storyteller and writer, so I use these vessels as well to present my creations.
Currently, I am working a variety of works. First, I am writing a series table top role playing modules called “The Player’s Guide to Vethus” “Races of Vethus”, and the starting adventure “War of the Highblood” that can be incorporated into any system that uses the “D20” game rules presented by Wizards of the Coast for Dungeons and Dragons. I am doing all of the artwork for the books as well as the writing, however my production has stopped because of the new revision of the rules coming out in June. I am also working on a novel based on the adventures of a character I created a few years ago. These works are in addition to any projects that I work on for classes, personal art work, or any commissions I’m asked to do.
